I need to blog about a very serious problem which is not receiving enough attention from the mainstream media: Belgium. Belgium has been without a government since June (approaching its SIXTH month without a coalition government) and there is a very real chance that my beloved nation-state may break up.
As you may or may not know, I have an unhealthy obsession with the nation-state of Belgium. There are long family ties dating back to the second world war between this country and myself. This is why I have a stake in this matter. I have brought it upon myself to create awareness. But I am not the only person who would have a problem with the breakup of what is officially known as "the world's cutest nation".
Would you like to eat Flemish chocolate? Flemish Waffles? Even Wallooni Waffles sounds terrible. THINK OF THE CHILDREN.
I stand behind King Albert II, the long standing unifying force of his kingdom. Sure, he may have the ugliest castle in Europe, but who am I to make fun of his ugly green motif?? I don't have a castle!
I do however have the area's largest collection of Mannekin Pis memorabilia ranging from statues to books to t-shirts, posters, cards, post cards, key chains, wine bottle openers... but I don't know if this qualifies me to mock the King's castle. I've visited my little statue numerous times, as well as his drunk sister, and I've even visited the museum of his outfits. The moral of the story is BELGIUM MIGHT BREAK UP AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT I WILL DO IF IT DOES.
SOLIDARITY. Belgium, I am behind you!!! Please, please, PLEASE, please please come up with a compromise. Do it for my Mannekin Pis wine bottle opener...LONG LIVE BELGIUM.
True story: I don't have a livestrong bracelet, but I have a Belgium bracelet and I will wear it until Belgium has a government.

I hope for all of our sakes that they come up for a government soon. For the good of all man kind, and for little boys that like to pee in the street.
I'm laughing out loud as I read this! Waffles. Oh, and don't forget beer. Actually, I think all the things we love about Belgium would still be there if Belgium split. The same argument seems to come around every few years.
